Jan. 17, 2008 — Fresh produce, delicious vegetarian dishes, music, farm tours and local crafts will be featured this weekend at the 11th annual Bordeaux Farmers Rastafari Agricultural and Cultural Food Fair at the Bordeaux tennis courts on St. Thomas.
There's something for everybody to do at the fair. You can learn to make a broom, or you can let your kids learn new crafts, or you can learn how to make pepper sauce from Miss Lou Henley, or you can get tips on eating a healthy diet and learn about raw food diets.
Or you can just sit back and listen to the music and chat with old friends, and have a bowl of Jambie's pumpkin soup.
Farmer of the Year Delano Cubu Francis will be honored Saturday at 1 p.m., We Grow Food president Derick Hodge said Thursday. The morning will feature a presentation by the Environmental Rangers, cultural presentations, and music in the afternoon by the Addelita Cancryn Junior High School steel band. The jazz band Raw4Show will play later in the afternoon, with what Hodge calls a "homegrown concert" ending the evening.
Sunday will feature a presentation by the Ethiopian Black International Congress, a live DJ for the day, Echo People drummers from St. John, and African fashion and modeling in the afternoon.
Farm tours are available at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. You can learn about composting from We Grow Food farmers, or you can learn about beekeeping from Eldridge Thomas.
The fair is hosted by the Bordeaux farmers' collective, We Grow Food Inc., and is also funded in part by the V.I. Council on the Arts. Admission is $2 for adults. Children are free.
