Brief: VIPD Hosting International Reserve Police Conference

Jan. 16, 2008 — The 2008 International Reserve Police Conference will take place Jan. 24 through 27 at Divi Carina Bay Resort, St. Croix, with the theme, "The Role of Volunteer Police Programs in Natural Disasters."
The conference opening ceremonies begin at 9:30 a.m. Jan. 24 at the resort, according to a V.I. Police Department news release. Gov. John deJongh Jr. and Police Commissioner James H. McCall will deliver welcoming remarks, along with the sheriff of Orange County, Fla., and V.I. Attorney General Vincent Frazer.
A featured component of the conference is incident-command training — a highly effective response-management system that brings together multi-agency resources to ensure successful responses to natural disasters.
Conference attendees include law-enforcement personnel from Anguilla, Canada, Florida, Bermuda, Barbados, the BVI, New York and other jurisdictions.
