Susan Lawson Dies at 56


Jan. 18, 2008 – Susan Lawson, a long-time resident of St. Thomas, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Jan. 15, in Naples, Fla. She was 56 years old.
Lawson was born in Fort Dix, N.J. and first moved to St. Thomas in the 1970s, where she became an owner of Magens Point Hotel. She moved back to the island in 1996, and most recently opened Quin House Galleries, now in Red Hook. She previously worked for Emeralds of Colombia.
Family and friends will remember her as a beautiful, adventurous and courageous person, who loved the outdoors, especially scuba diving, snorkeling and skiing. She had a great sense of style and lived her life to the fullest.
She is survived by her husband, John Zebedee; father, Ed Philkill; brothers: Scott Philkill and Steven Philkill; sisters-in-law Debbie and Janet Philkill; stepdaughter, Tamarind Stein; and 7 nieces and nephews.
A private service was held on Wednesday, Jan. 16, at the home of a friend in Naples. A memorial service will be held later on St. Thomas.
