Officer Akeem Basil Newton Dies at 44


Jan. 28, 2008 – Police Officer Akeem Basil Newton, also known as "Teddy," of Estate Work and Rest, was killed in an automobile accident on Jan. 20. He was 44 years old.
He is survived by his wife: Esther McLeod Newton; adoptive mother: Veronica Rodgers; daughter, Adrianna Xiomara Newton; son: Akeem Basil Newton; stepdaughter, Natasha Francios; stepson, Kai Devante Herelle; and goddaughter, Anelia Fawkes. He is also survived by sisters: Julia Poleon, Pamela Williams, Alice Newton-Graham, Lylette Newton-Joseph, Muriel Amelda Paul, Joyce Newton-Thomas; brothers: Conrod, Bobby, Robert and Nathaniel Newton; aunts: Veronica Walters and Margaret Richardson; uncles: Sunny Nolan and Urban Walters; special friends: Davis Stevens Sr., Anderson Poleon, Leslie Williams, Edmund Walters, Jane-Ann St.Hall, Nakia Samuel, Arlene Peterson, Mario Moorehead; and many other relatives and friends too numerous to mention.
Officer Newton will lie in state from 9 a.m. to noon, on Friday, Feb. 1, at Government House.
A viewing will be held from 9-10:30 a.m., on Saturday, Feb. 2, at the Victorious Believers Ministries, in Peter's Rest (Behind Brass Key). A funeral service will follow at 10:30 a.m., at the church. Interment will be at the Kingshill Cemetery Police Section.
