Suspect on Most Wanted List Surrenders After Seeing Picture in Paper

Feb. 14, 2008 — A criminal suspect on the V.I. Most Wanted list turned himself in Thursday after seeing his picture in the newspaper and learning from relatives it was on the Internet, police say.
Steven "Omph" Malone, 26, was placed on the V.I. Most Wanted list Feb. 8 and turned himself in to police on St. Croix Thursday. He was wanted in connection with a third-degree assault in a domestic-violence incident and is currently on probation.
"Malone told Criminal Investigation Bureau detectives that he saw his photo in the papers and that his family told him that his photo was also on the Internet," according to a news release from the V.I. Police Department. "He was arrested and remanded to custody."
Police arrested another man on drug charges Feb. 8. Oluwole "Olo" Flores, 34 of Estate Smithfield, St. Croix, was arrested by members of the VIPD Drug Enforcement Bureau and charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute and resisting arrest
"The arrest was part of sustained undercover operations conducted by the VIDEA," the release said.
When arrested, Flores was in possession of crack cocaine, marijuana and drug paraphernalia, police say. His bail was set at $10,000 and he was remanded to custody.
Alson on St. Croix, a first-degree robbery was reported to police at approximately 3 p.m. Wednesday in the vicinity of Marley Beach. A taxi driver reported that he was parked by the beach when four individuals approached him. One individual pointed a black handgun at him and demanded his waist bag. The victim resisted, however, and one suspect removed the bag from the victim's waist. The suspects left the area in a white Jeep. The matter is being followed up by the Criminal Investigation Bureau.
