Eulalie R. Rivera Students Dominate Elementary Track and Field


March 5, 2008 – Student athletes from Eulalie R. Rivera Elementary School emerged as pre-championship winners as more than 10 elementary school boys and girls competed in the Elementary School Track and Field meets at the St. Croix Educational Complex High School track in February. The meet date was Feb. 22, and the championship will be held on March 29.
In overall standings, Eulalie R. Rivera students dominated, with a total of 162 points. Claude O. Makoe stood in second place with 150 points. Sunny Isle Baptist Christian was in third with a total of 148 points.
The Rivera students were awarded four gold, eight silver and five bronze medals. Rivera also boasted two MVPs. Claude O. Markoe totaled 13 medals; Sunny Isle Baptist Christian and Ricardo Richards schools each won seven, according to a press release from the Virgin Islands Elementary Track and Field Federation.
MVP Annika Benders swept 8-and-under girls' track events, with first-place medals in both the 80-meter and 150-meter. Rodney Griffin was the other Eulalie R. Rivera MVP, with first-place medals in both 200-meter and 400-meter events in the age 9 and 10 boys' category. Medals are presented to the top three athletes in their divisions and ribbons to the remaining finishers, up to seven overall. Trophies will be awarded to the most valuable athletes on championship day and to the top three teams.
The St. Croix Track Club and the V.I. Pace Runners and the Virgin Islands Track and Field Federation organize the St. Croix Elementary Track and Field Series.
