Gourmands Get Happy Faces from Local Sorbets, Gelatos

March 7, 2007 — Two former New Yorkers recently introduced Happy Face 100% Natural Caribbean Sorbets & Gelatos, made daily on St. Thomas in small batches from the finest and freshest ingredients. These fat-free sorbets come in a variety of flavors including strawberry, lime, and mango, plus more exotic options including pumpkin, champagne, basil-lime and avocado.
The company has also added sugar-free ice creams, sweetened with organic agave nectar, to their offerings. All products are made from fruits, vegetables, spices, dairy products and cane sugar produced in the heart of the Caribbean and purchased from local vendors whenever possible. Happy Face's limited-run production techniques assure homemade taste and a product that's never freezer burned.
Happy Face uses no chemicals, no preservatives, and no freezing agents. It is the first company in the USVI to package its products in reusable containers and the company is developing a five cent deposit refund program.
Founders Jonathan Levine and Jessica Shrier left careers in media in New York to focus on "an oceanfront gelato and sorbet kingdom" in the V.I.
"Happy Face Sorbet and Gelatos are of magnificent flavor, appearance and consistency," said Eddie Williams, executive chef at the Wyndam Sugar Bay Resort & Spa. "I'm proud to serve them to my customers and highly recommend them."
Happy Face is sold at Marina Market, Frenchtown Deli, Beacon Point, Castaways and other retailers.
