Alert: Drainage Work Will Interrupt Traffic on Veterans Drive

March 12, 2008 — Drivers should expect minor traffic interruptions Sunday and Monday at the intersection of Long Bay and Veterans Drive.
"The traffic pattern at the newly constructed section of Veterans Drive near the Lucinda Millin Home intersection will be reduced to a single lane, alternating traffic," said Public Works Commissioner Darryl A. Smalls, according to a news release.
The work zone is at the tie-in where the Old Veterans Drive section meets the newly constructed section of Route 30, Veterans Drive. Traffic on Long Bay Road and Lover's Lane will not be affected during the single-lane restriction on the newly constructed section of Veterans Drive.
"Motorists traveling east and west on Veterans Drive may be delayed during the single-lane closure and lane shift that is expected, " Smalls said. "Flag persons will be on site to assist with the movement of traffic during this period."
The contractor, Island Roads Corporation, will excavate the asphalt-base material and the sub-surface to install drainage to correct the failure of the sub-surface in this area.
"Island Roads anticipates being able to complete this work in one day," Smalls said. "However, two days have been reserved for any contingencies that may arise."
