Saturated police patrols on St. Croix arrested five people during the weekend on separate charges of drug possession and driving under the influence. The arrests were made Friday and Saturday in various areas of the island.

Robert Rosa Jr., age 26, and Eddie A. Saldana, age 28, were both arrested at about 8:30 p.m. Friday during a traffic stop in Estate Profit. They were charged with simple possession of a controlled substance when found with marijuana in their possession. Both were held on a $1,000 bail.

Carlos Garcia Rivera, age 23 of Estate Mon Bijou, was also arrested Friday about 10:30 p.m. on Hospital Street in Christiansted when he was found with marijuana in his possession during a traffic stop. Rivera was also charged with DUI. His bail was set at $1,000.

Two suspects were arrested at about 1 a.m. Saturday when found with drugs at the H2O Night Club in La Grande Princess. Jereme Melendez and Okeem Bannis, both 20-years-old and residing in separate Estate Diamond residences, were arrested for possession of marijuana. They were held on $1,000 bail each and remanded to custody.

St. Croix Police Chief Christopher Howell said the new Special Operations Mobile Unit was used to book the arrested suspects. The van traveled from east to west during the weekend and parked in several “trouble spots,” including Campo Rico, Clifton Hill, Grove Place and Estate Princess.
