Raffle Donations Needed for Sprauve School Gala

Trips, hotel stays and restaurant meals are all on the raffle prize wish list for the Julius E. Sprauve School Benefit Gala organizing team.

“They sell really well,” Assistant Principal Brenda Dalmida said.

The gala begins at 6 p.m. April 16 at Caneel Bay Resort.

According to Dalmida, raffle prizes are already starting to accumulate, but the more prizes, the more money the gala raises for the school. She said that the goal is $100,000.

Tickets are going fast, but Dalmida said there are still plenty left. They run $100 a piece and include dinner. She said teams will be at the Marketplace Shopping Center and in front of the Cruz Bay post office Saturday to sell tickets.

The gala’s theme for this year “Together We Can Make A Difference As Our Children Reach for the Stars!”

The money raised at the gala goes to fund projects at the school.

“We have a lot of ambitious plans for next year,” Dalmida said.

Dalmida said work is already way on a playground to be located in the school yard adjacent to the street along side the school. It’s targeted at students in grades kindergarten through four. She said it will have a jungle gym apparatus as well as a structure that students can take apart and put together.

And work is ongoing in the school’s cafeteria.

Other planned projects include renovation and conversion of the current computer lab from the use of Mac equipment to a PC Lab, purchase of electronic books for the school’s secondary Pre-Advance Placement Class, English language learners and elementary gifted and talented class. The school also plans to replace student lockers with money raised at the gala.

School Principal Mario Francis said that he hopes money raised this year will allow the school to finally complete the fitness center, which is a carry-over from last year’s initiatives.

Any businesses or organizations interested in donating products, services or merchandise are asked to contact Dalmida, Cleameana Duncan or Ivy Scatliffe-Lynton at 776-6336.
