Lady Caribs Trounce Lady Barras

The Lady Caribs of St. Croix Central High School broke open a tight game in the second half, outscoring the Educational Complex Lady Barracudas 34-18 on their way to a 62-43, 19-point blowout victory in girl’s varsity basketball action Saturday night at Ronald Charles Gymnasium on the Central campus.

Only three points separated the two teams at the half, with the Lady Caribs clinging to a slight advantage, but after intermission the hosts dominated the rest of the way.

The first quarter belonged to the Lady Barracudas as they outplayed the home team to lead 15-11 at the end of the period.

In th second period the Lady Caribs’ balanced attack and better defensive play allowed them to take a 28-25 halftime lead. They would not look back.

Six points apiece from Lady Caribs’ floor general, Lanese Bough and Kayla Peter propelled Central to a 17-12 advantage in the third quarter and a 45-37 lead.

Caribs Coach Donald Bough really tightened the screws in the fourth quarter with a stifling defense that took the fight completely out of the Lady Barras. The Caribs, offensively, had another 17-point quarter while holding their opponents to just six for the lopsided victory.

The Lady Caribs had three players in double figures, led by Bough who finished with a game-high 17 points. Melanesia Hendrickson and Jayda Edwards finished with 15 and 11 respectively. The Lady Barras also has three players in double figures, led by Laquida Iles, who finished with a team-high 13 points, Veronique Llanos with 12 and Kayla Smith with 11.
