Cobras Rally for 11-6 Victory

Cobras reliever Jonathan Gonzalez was dominant in securing the win.The Cobras bested the Giants, 11-6, Tuesday night in Elmo Plaskett 16-18 Baseball action at the D.C. Canegata Baseball field utilizing three pitchers in a five-inning time-shortened contest.

The Cobras, who fell behind early, erupted for four runs in the fourth to put the game out of reach, and reliever Jonathan Gonzalez did the rest.

Batting first, the Cobras got on the board with a run in the top of the first inning on a wild pitch. The Giants responded with four runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 4-1 lead. They scored four runs on RBI singles by Mark Knight and Wayne Lowery and two costly Cobras erros.

The Cobras responded in the top of the second with four runs on an RBI double by Ray Padilla, a two-run triple by Joshua Torres and an RBI single by Jeffry Bryan to take a 5-4 lead after two innings as the Giants failed to score in the bottom of the inning.

The Giants again grabbed the lead at 6-5, plating two runs in the bottom of the third on an RBI triple by Richard White and a Cobras shortstop error after the latter failed to score in the top of the inning.

The two runs scored prompt the Cobras to go to the bullpen for closer Jonathan Gonzalez, who prevented any further damage in the inning and silenced the Giants for the rest of the game.

Meanwhile the Cobras offense was back on the attack in the top of the fourth, erupting for four runs to take the lead for good. They would add two more in the fifth for a final score of 11-6.

Gonzalez picked up the victory in relief of setup man Paddilla, while Raydell Dennis got the loss for the giants.

Top batters for the winners were Padilla (3 for 4 with one RBI), Torres (2 for 3 with two RBIs), and Bryan (2 for 2 with one RBI). For the Giants, Lowery was 1 for 2 with an RBI, and Knight was 1 for 3 with an RBI.
