Woman Charged with Stealing Cop's Private Vehicle

Charisma S. Turnbull, 21, was arrested by V.I. Police Sunday after allegedly stealing a police officer’s private vehicle in Cruz Bay.

While at the police station Turnbull was identified as the suspect who stole a firearm, which was later recovered from the stolen vehicle, according to police.

Turnbull was arrested at about 10:30 p.m. Sunday and charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm, unauthorized use of a vehicle and other charges.

According to police reports, the officer stopped his private vehicle, leaving the key inside, and left the immediate area. When he returned he saw the suspect, later identified as Turnbull, driving his vehicle towards him. He ordered the suspect to stop and she did so. The suspect was searched and taken to Leander Jurgen Command.

When the officer and Turnbull arrived at the station, another person who was reporting that his firearm was stolen saw Turnbull and identified her as the suspect. Officers searched the vehicle and found the victim’s firearm inside in the center console along with ammunition, keys belonging to a car rental agency and other stolen items.

Turnbull was also charged with grand larceny, possession of stolen property, constructive possession of a firearm and possession of ammunition.

Her bail was set at $75,000 and she was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending further court action.
