Grucci Family Returns for Carnival Fireworks

Returning to the territory for its fifth consecutive year, the world-renowned Grucci family of Brookhaven, N.Y., will once again produce the V.I. Carnival’s fireworks finale.

Scheduled for 9 p.m. Saturday, this year’s "Fireworks Spectacular" is supported in part by assistance from Tropical Shipping, Boynes Trucking Systems and MSI Building Supplies, according to a release from organizer Steve Bornn at Left Lane Productions, which is orchestrating the show.

Staged from a barge strategically placed in the inner-harbor cove between Frederiksberg Point (the old pump house) and King’s Wharf (the legislative grounds), the 19-minute display will feature sequences with special effects designed for close viewing. Past displays have lit up the sky with distinctive patterns, such smiley faces, corkscrews and hearts, and this year will be no exception, Bornn said.

The best spots to fully enjoy the custom-designed pyrotechnics display are downtown at the Carnival Village and the adjacent Waterfront area – not from the mountainsides, he added. The fireworks program is intended to encourage attendance at the Last Lap of Carnival.

Boats normally anchored in the area will be required to re-locate from the restricted zone, according to the press release.
