CGL Gives Presentation on Danish West Indies Passenger Records

0

Caribbean Genealogy Library will host a presentation on Danish West Indies Passenger Arrival and Passport Records, covering the period from 1794–1899, from 2-4 p.m. on Saturday, May 14, at Randy’s Restaurant. Susan Laura Lugo, territorial coordinator for archives, will discuss the information contained in these important records, and how and where they can be accessed. She has prepared a finding aid to assist researchers in becoming familiar with this resource.
Microfilm copies of these records were formerly housed at the Enid M. Baa Library, but they were destroyed in the aftermath of Hurricane Hugo. Recently, the Danish National Archives digitized the original thanks to donations from CGL and others. Copies have been made and are now available in libraries throughout the territory.
The Caribbean Genealogy Library is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 2000. Its mission is to identify, preserve and provide access to Caribbean genealogy, history and cultural heritage information resources and to promote and encourage their use for family history documentation, education and scholarship. CGL is funded through its membership fees and tax-exempt contributions.
