Innovative, in conjunction with the Governor Juan F. Luis Hospital and Medical Center, will host a community blood drive from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday, May 13, at the Innovative Business Center located at Estate Diamond, St Croix.

Debra Andrews, blood bank technician for the hospital, said, “Our facility is always in need of blood; however, the amount needed on a regular basis exceeds the amount that we typically collect. In fact, last year, the Juan F. Luis Hospital transfused more than 1,500 pints of blood, yet we collected only 400 pints of blood. We hope that the community takes time out of their day to make a difference and save a life.”

When blood is in limited supply, the JFLH Blood Bank typically procures blood from the American Red Cross in Puerto Rico. The time it takes to obtain a shipment of blood can mean precious moments for a patient in need. Donating blood of all types, particularly the universal type O negative, can save the lives of several people in the community, including family and friends.

Innovative is encouraging employees and customers to visit the Mobile Blood Unit that will be located at the Innovative Business Center to give blood. The entire process, including screening, will take approximately 30 minutes
