The USVI Hotel and Tourism Association will honor the Boys and Girls Club of the Virgin Islands and Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of the V.I. on Jan. 24 at a special check presentation to be held at 3:30 p.m. at the Boys and Girls Club on St. Croix.
The organizations will be honored with cash donations as presented by the USVIHTA for their efforts to support youth in the Virgin Islands through the many programs they offer which help children to build and maintain healthy lifestyles free from violence, abuse and encourage education.
Lisa Hamilton, president of the USVIHTA, said that the association and its more than 200 members are proud to support such important community service organizations that work tirelessly to aid needy youth of the Virgin Islands.
“Programs such as these are vital in our community as they help the youth in our communities and reinforce the message that we care and want to help them succeed,” said Hamilton. “This is our way of partnering with them so that they continue to provide the support required to help the youth on the islands that need it most.”
Hamilton added that she along with the board and its members are proud of CASA (www.casavi.org) as it is a vital organization designed to train volunteers to advocate for children. Those volunteers take the time to act as Court Appointed Special Advocates speak up in Court to ensure that the child who has been traumatized by abuse and neglect has an advocate to help them. The Boys and Girls Club of the VI offers a variety of programs that help youth from ages 6 to 18 by ensuring after school, technology and leadership programs along with arts and crafts and other activities which are offered to the more than 200 children who are served by the BGC, Hamilton said. “As an association, we are grateful for the work each of these organizations provides daily to offer a better, brighter community for the children they serve who live in the USVI,” she said. “It is a pleasure to support them and the vital work they do.”
