The next Guest Chef Slow Down Dinner will be held on Sunday, Jan. 27, and will feature Chef Tahirah, who is known across the land and sea for her daring tastes and creativity, deriving from her personal communication with fresh food. A master chef for over 30 years, she draws from her knowledge of fine southern, nouvelle-farm cuisine executed in a Caribbean style.
Those who can make it earlier, please join in with the farmers on a photographic "golden hour" farm tour from 6-6:30 p.m. Enjoy six courses of the Ridge to Reef Farm’s (and a few other local farms) certified organic crops and grass fed livestock and poultry. In between each dish-plating, enjoy brief presentations and stories from the farmers and chefs. Dress is island casual. Arrivals are welcome starting at 6 p.m., and dinner seating is 6:30ish. Seats are limited and are first-come, first serve; reservations and confirmations required.
Make reservations either by: the Ridge to Reef Farm / Virgin Islands Sustainable Farm Institute produce Web site or leave a message at 220-0466 (there will be a reply with confirmation). Produce and dinner reservations are at www.vi.locallygrown.net. Remember, there are limited seats, and any cancellations should be made at least 48 hours prior, so the farm can contact the waiting list. Make sure to alert us of the party size and any dietary restrictions ahead of time.
Show support for the farm’s food production and farming education by making a love offering for the evening of a suggested $60 to $100 per person. Donations go toward the organic Community Supported Agriculture program. Please consider as well a gratuity for the farmer/servers and kitchen staff.
Directions to Ridge to Reef Farm from east: take Mahogany Road (freshly paved) into the rainforest past Norma’s Domino Club and take the second right turn onto 58 (look for Ridge to Reef Farm sign). Follow until reaching top of hill where scenic west connects, and look for the farm sign and metal gate at that intersection. Follow into farm property and descend into Caledonia Valley in 1/2 mile and park at bottom of hill near the solar-powered community center. Drive slowly over speed bumps and take a higher clearance vehicle if possible. Carpooling as parking is limited with all the new gardens.
From west, take Creque Dam Road 58 past Creque Dam and Mt. Victory Campground to the top of the road where it connects with scenic west (approximately 2.7 miles from Sprat Hall). Turn sharp left at farm gate, and follow directions above from the gate.
