Defending Champs Set It Off Ousted from Bob Owens Playoffs

There will be no back-to-back champions in the Bob Owens Slow Pitch Softball League after the defending champs, Set It Off, lost twice on Thursday and were eliminated.

The Anchor Dive Pirates upset the second-seeded Set It Off 21-10 in game one, then the Benjay Lumberjacks sealed the deal by whipping the defending champs 21-10 in game three to send them home for the season. The Lumberjacks had lost the second game of the night to number one-seeded National Guard Hummers 18-11 to end up in the loser’s bracket contest against Set it off.

Pirates 25, Set It Off 23

The Anchor Dive Pirates continued their hot play by edging Set It Off, 25-23. It was the Pirates with 25 runs on 23 hits and three erors, while Set It Off finished with 23 runs on 23 hits and three errors. Winning pitcher was Mario Simmonds and Julio Carmona got the loss. Top batters for the winners were Arthur Cannonier (4 for 5 with three home runs and six RBIs) and Gregory Naar (3 for 4 with a home run and two RBIs). For Set It Off Fernando Quesada was 4 for 4 with two home runs and six RBIs and Tony Cruz was 4 for 4 with a home run and four RBIs.

Hummers 18, Lumberjacks 11
The top seeded Hummers continue to show why they are the team to beat by roughing up the Benjay Lumberjacks, 18-11, in game two on Thursday to remain one of two unbeaten teams in this year’s playoffs. The Hummers finished with 18 runs on 16 hits and four errors, while the Lumberjacks had 11 runs on 12 hits and five errors. Stanley jones got the win on the hill for the Hummers and Greg Miller got the loss. Top batters for the Hummers were Melvin Benscom (2 for 3 with two home runs and fve RBIs) and Colin Williams (3 for 3 with a home run and three RBIs). For the Lumberjacks Sharif Hodge was 2 for 2 with a home run and two RBIs and Miller was 3 for 3 with a home run and two RBIs.

Lumberjacks 21, Set it Off 10
In game three on Thursday, a loser’s bracket contest, the Benjay Lumberkjacks exploded for 21 runs on 29 hits and two errors to beat Set It Off, 21-10, and send them packing for the season. The normally powerful Set It Off squad could only muster 10 runs on 13 hits and three errors against Lumberjacks ace Miller. Carmona picked up his second loss on the mound for Set It Off for the night. Top batters for the Lumberjacks were Marcelo Jacobs (3 for 3 with two home runs and six RBIs) and Sean tutein (2 for 3 with two home runs and five RBI). For Set It Off, David Samuel was 2 for 2 with two home runs and two RBIs and Cruz was 2 for 3 with two home runs and three RBIs.
