VING Notifies Employees of Possible Furlough

0

The Virgin Islands National Guard gave initial notice to its federal technicians Thursday about the proposed furlough that will result if Congress fails to end sequestration.
The 30-day notice, which is mandated by the U.S. Office of Personnel Management, explains to all employees the parameters of the furlough and how it would impact them.
The furlough is expected to begin on Apr. 26 and continue through Sep. 20. Full time federal technicians can expect to be placed in a temporary, non-pay, non-duty status for eight hours each work week for a total of 176 hours, according to a press release issued on Thursday by the Office of the Adjutant General of the V.I. National Guard.
The proposed furlough, directed by the Department of Defense for all state national guards to implement, is in response to budget cuts required by sequestration.
