Innovative Telephone has experienced another outage due to copper wire theft to the company’s outside plant telecommunication facilities on St. Croix.
Within the last four weeks, there have been six incidents of copper wire theft for Innovative Telephone. Last night, two spans of 400 pair cable were stolen, leaving over 130 subscribers in Morning Star, Salt River Marina and Gentle Winds Condos out of telecommunication services. Innovative’s outside plant technical team are on-site and service is anticipated to be fully restored before the close of business today.
Prior incidents in the last four weeks include:
1. Estate Glynn on July 22
2. Estate Calquohoun on July 25
3. Estate Glynn and Estate Calquohoun on August 1
4. Estate Concordia, Salt River Marina and Gentle Winds Condos on August 7
The same areas are being targeted by these offenders, and it is causing a major economic strain on the company’s resources. The residents of these areas are asked to be very vigilant.
Purposeful disruption of telecommunication services is a federal offense because it may affect the ability of emergency responders and other individuals to communicate. Innovative has enlisted the aid of both the local and federal authorities in apprehending these perpetrators. Innovative officials are encouraging anyone with information concerning the theft to contact the local authorities.
