The V.I. Department of Human Services (DHS) has begun preparations for the celebration of Older American Month, according to a press release from DHS Commissioner Felecia L. Blyden.

“Every year the Department of Human Services sets-aside the entire month of May as we give reverence to the many contributions of seniors throughout the territory.  While these activities are annual, they are distinct and unique in its theme and concept,” said the commissioner.

The Division of Senior Citizens Affairs has put together a month of activities for seniors on all three islands.  The celebration will open with church services throughout the territory.  On May 2, at 10 a.m., church services will be held at the Lutheran Church of Reformation on St. Thomas, and on May 6, at 10 a.m., services will be held at Nazareth Lutheran Church on St. John.  The church services on St. Croix will be held at 10 a.m., May 3 at Victorious Believers Ministries.  On the same day, at noon, there will be a dedication ceremony for the senior transportation fleet, which includes new buses and mini vans for the Meals on Wheels program.

Among the other activities are an Open House Workshop, bowling, Bingo, movies, beach day, Citizenship Day at the Legislature, a Government House cocktail reception and a cultural extravaganza.
