The Christiansted National Historic Site invites the community to an opening of its new exhibit about Christiansted and the history of its neighborhoods. It will hold a special viewing for Gallowsbayrians, Freegonians and Hillsiders from noon to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 20, which will then be open to the general public from 2-4:30 p.m. The exhibit is on the second floor of Fort Christiansvaern and will be on display through September 2014. Those attending the opening will be allowed to enter Ft. Christiansvaern without charge.
The exhibit will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., seven days. It will be closed Thanksgiving and Christmas. The parking lot closes at 3:30 p.m.
The Christiansted National Historic Site is only one cornerstone of the community. The need to bring together the other facets, the people, their neighborhoods and their stories, has inspired this exhibit. Over the past 18 months. The National Park Service has brought together several researchers, students, residents, business owners, artists and park rangers from here and abroad to present this information to the public.
Christiansted’s history is unique and complex, deserving of all means of preservation, e.g., pictures, songs, stories and architecture. Acknowledging the many ways to learn about this town continues work done by previous citizens and researchers.
