April 26, 2003 – The schedule of activities, events and deadlines for "Music, Mas and Pageantry for Carnival 2003" is posted here, and will be updated as information is provided. This is the theme for Carnival 2003, chosen from more than 60 entries by the Carnival Committee. Leayle Robinson's words got the nod.
Carnival Fair: "Lucia's Straw Market"
honoring Lucia Penn
Wednesday, April 30 relocated to the Emancipation Garden; official opening at noon.
When revelers and party-goers head to the 2003 Carnival Fair — formerly known as the Food Fair — they will be heading to a fair named in honor of Lucia Penn, for her decades of displaying her mastery of straw art.
Awards will be given to Best Dressed Fair Participant, Arts and Crafts, Basketweaving and Hat Making, Plants, Produce, Cakes and Pastries, and Native Candies.
There'll also be cultural performances and musical entertainment by the St. Thomas All Stars Steelband and Milo's Kings.

V.I. Calypso Monarch Competition
Thursday, May 1 8 p.m. at Lionel Roberts Stadium
Tickets are $12 in advance, $15 at the gate. See ticket outlets at top of article.
Ten top V.I. calypsonians will compete against reigning monarch Whadablee for the title. Contenders are: Super T, Mighty Pat, Sugar Dee, Reflector, Soljah, Generic, King Kan Fu' Plentae, Jemma Noel, Waggy and Pepper Pat. Alternate just in case is The Incredible Shark.

Calypso Spectakula
(Yep, Carnival features not only original songs and calypsos but also original spelling.)

Featured will be calypsonians from Trinidad Baron, Explainer, Gypsy, Calypso Rose, Crazy and St. Thomas' Whadablee. New Imaginations Brass will do back-up.
Carnival Last Lap: Thrash Back Dance
Sunday, May 4 7 p.m. at Palms Court Harbour View Hotel
Tickets are $15 in advance, $20 at the door. See ticket outlets at top of article.
The dance features the band that brought you "Chances" and "Control" by Sanell Dempster and "Sugar Factory" by Lima Calbio – both of the sensational soca band out of Trinidad, the Blue Ventures; this alongside St. Thomas' own P'Your Passion Band.
There will be shuttle service from the USO area parking lot to the hotel from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and again after the dance.
