VIWMA Announces Winners of Can Collection Contest

0

Nov. 18, 2005 – The Virgin Islands Waste Management Authority initiated a "Don't Trash Your Cans, Cash Your Cans" aluminum can collection contest from Oct. 11 to Nov. 10. The contest's purpose was to promote aluminum can recycling and its rewards. Cans can be redeemed for cash, and the contest was introduced as an opportunity for schools to fundraise. They were recycled by EZ Recycling, LLC on St. Croix and STS Recycling on St. Thomas/St. John, according to a press release from VIWMA.
The winners of the aluminum can collection contest are:
St. Croix District
1st Place Law Muckle Elementary School 4,920 cans
2nd Place School of the Good Shepard 1,440 cans
3rd Place St. Croix Country Day School 1,296 cans
St. Thomas/St. John District
1st Place Tutu Church of God Academy 8,232 cans
2nd Place St. John Christian Academy 6,336 cans
3rd Place Joseph Sibilly Elementary School 5,160 cans
Congratulations to all of the winners. A sincere appreciation is extended to all of the schools that participated in this year's collection contest. Collecting cans is a good way to raise funds for school, clubs and other organizations, and it helps keep these items out of the local landfills. We encourage schools to collect cans year round and contact EZ Recycling and STS Recycling to recycle their cans.
