Aug. 3, 2001 Every pet owner knows who's smarter, but "Cats & Dogs" decides to explore it anyhow. How many times has your cat brought you your pipe and slippers lately?
Director Larry Guterman has assembled a remarkably able cast including Susan Sarandon, Alec Baldwin and Tobey Maguire to voice the little critters, but the reviewers say that just isn't enough. The plot sags like, well, like an old sock.
There's a big war on led by a "power-crazed feline," Mr. Tinkles (Sean Hayes of "Will and Grace"). He is determined to wipe out the "man's best friend" image. Might as well try to wipe out mom and apple pie.
The technical aspects of the movie are worth a thousand plots, however, as real animals, puppets and computer images vie for first place. And this is from horse's mouth, so to speak, or anyhow the reviewers'.
It is rated PG-13, and is lasts an hour and a half.
It is playing at Diamond Cinemas.
