The "Bringing Peace to Paradise" festival in Coral Bay, St. John, on Sunday raised some $30,000 for the Stop the Violence project, according to festival organizer Mary Bartolucci.
Sales of food, beverages and T-shirts, plus 1,350 adult tickets sold made up the total take for the event, the first fund-raiser for the project of the People Moving Forward Foundation, Bartolucci said in a statement Tuesday. More than 100 volunteers from the British and U.S. Virgin Islands sold food, drinks, moved equipment and assisted performers to make the festival a success.
Bartolucci said the festival also planted the seeds for community involvement in the escalating problem of violence in the Virgin Islands. She said the next project is being developed now and will be held before the end of the year.
