The Community Foundation of the Virgin Islands will kick off "Fatherhood 2000," an initiative to promote responsible fatherhood, at the next St. Thomas-St. John Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours. The event will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 8, at Café Amici in A.H. Riise's Alley.
Chamber members, guests and potential members are encouraged to attend. Complimentary hors d'oeuvres and the chamber's famous $2 bar will be featured.
"The occasion will be a celebration of fathers," Community Foundation executive director Dee Baecher-Brown said. "A special effort will be made to invite fathers. Guests will be asked to share their favorite stories about their fathers, or about being a father, as they network and socialize. Resource materials will be available, and T-shirts will be raffled. Promoting strong families is a major focus of the foundation."
CFVI is a not-for-profit philanthropic organization with a permanent and growing capital investment from donors. The income from the funds is used to support activities of other organizations which are striving to improve life for all Virgin Islanders, Baecher-Brown said.
