A group of Virgin Islanders with Ohio connections is organizing a not-for-profit society called the V.I. Buckeyes — and hosting a cocktail sip for anyone interested in becoming a charter member. The event will take place Monday, Feb. 21, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Randy's Bistro in Al Cohen's Plaza atop Raphune Hill.
There will be complimentary Ohio-style finger food and a cash bar.
Membership in the organization is open to any individual who was born in Ohio or has lived in Ohio, gone to school in Ohio, visited Ohio or cheered for an Ohio team at a major athletic event. Others will be considered if they can demonstrate the legitimacy of their involvement and/or interest in the Buckeye State, V.I. Buckeyes president Carol Lotz said.
At the February 21st gathering, plans will be presented for a major social event and fund raiser tentatively to be held in May. Those paying year 2000 dues ($20 for individuals) at the meeting will become charter members of the organization.
