The Comfort Zone, at the Port of $ale Mall, presents an art exhibition called "Impact" from the School of Visual Arts, Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. On display are 38 paintings The show titled "impact" features students from the School of Visual Arts: Malene Allen, Bridgette Berry, Chasda Clendinen, Cassandra Creque, Joel Estrada, Kenneth Estrada, Jared Etsinger, Brodie Faragher, Johnson Francis, Adrienne Miller, Shamal Rawlins, Nahshan St Bernard, and artists, Yvonne Petersen, Susan Rawson, Jo Tarabula and Doreen Walsh.
The School of Visual Arts has annually welcomed students with art interests and talents to its facility at Fort Christian since 1983. Students between the ages of 13 and 18 work year round with professional art instructors. They receive a broad-based training in the fine arts and gain exposure to numerous career options locally and internationally. All sales of their artwork go to the School.
Artist Doreen Walsh continues to push the envelope of the traditional batik process. Her batiks are unique in their richness of detail, subtle relationship of color, and dynamic sense of space. "Telephone Lines" and "Cezanne's Flower" are two examples of her work with fluid lines, bold shapes, depth and movement.
Susan Rawson's medium is casein, which produces brilliant, permanent opaque colors with a flat matt finish. The paintings on display reflect her fresh inspiration for textures, sunlightmoonlight and patterns. The diverse subjects of her paintings include: interiors, gardens, children and animals. Her painting "The Comfort Zone" was created for this exhibit.
Jo Trabula, who conducted a series of seminars in the Virgin Islands in May, is a former oil painter and now an accomplished watercolorist. Her tropical watercolors depict a warm sensitive understanding of the Caribbean.
Yvonne E. Petersen, a native Virgin Islander, expresses her talent and training from Jo Trabula in her work "Market Woman".
