The offices of district superintendent of schools and state director of special education are empty after the resignation of Valaria Wheatley and the dismissal of Elsie Monsanto, the Daily News reported Tuesday.
Wheatley was named superintendent last year after Dora Hill resigned to return as principal of the Joseph Sibilly Elementary School.
James O Bryan, assistant to the governor for public affairs, told the Daily News on Monday he was not aware that Wheatley had resigned.
He did confirm that Monsanto "had been let go" as special education state director, the newspaper said. He did not say who would replace Monsanto.
