Police Apprehend Two in Connection with Murder at Mutual Homes

March 2, 2007 — St. Croix Police have arrested a man and woman in connection with a Feb. 24 homicide that occurred in Mutual Homes. Arrested early Friday were 19-year-old Jaime D. St. Omer of Sion Farm and 25-year-old Kavida DeGrasse of Mutual Homes.
Acting Chief of Police Winsbut McFarlande says information from the community enabled police to act swiftly. “While at the scene of the homicide, officers were contacted by a concerned citizen who was able to provide identifying information on the suspects,” says McFarlande.
At approximately 6 a.m. Friday, officers of the Street Enforcement Team, Criminal Investigation Bureau, Domestic Violence, Forensic and Project Safe Neighborhoods Unit executed search and arrest warrants on the residences of Omer and DeGrasse. Omer was arrested and charged with first-degree murder, attempted robbery, possession of a firearm during a crime of violence and reckless endangerment, among other charges.
Officers seized a bulletproof vest and bags containing what appeared to be marijuana from Omer’s home. Bail for Omer was set at $150,000 by Superior Court Judge Julio Brady.
DeGrasse has been charged with unauthorized possession of a firearm after a
shotgun was found in a bedroom closet in her home. Bail for DeGrasse was set at $25,000. It is unclear from the VIPD release if DeGrasse has been charged in relation to the homicide.
Omer and DeGrasse have both been remanded to custody at Golden Grove Correctional Facility.
