May 24, 2008 – The local Committee for International Year of the Reef 2008 will host The St. Croix Reef Jam, a benefit concert and activity day, from 1-8 p.m., on Sunday, May 25, on Rainbow Beach in Frederiksted.
The event will bring together local musicians including Kurt Schindler, and Jamesie and the All-Star Band. All proceeds will stay on St. Croix and benefit coral reef conservation efforts in the form of education and outreach programs. Reef Jam will also offer family and children's fisheries-related games and activities, a fish fry, an underwater photography contest, guest speakers and more.
Janelle Schindler initiated the plans for the Reef Jam, after husband Kurt decided to donate a performance to benefit his native St. Croix coral reefs. Reef Jam event planners include Melanie Feltmate and co-chairs for the committee Emily Tyner and Karlyn Langjahr.
