March 27, 2008 – Thirty-seven juniors from Charlotte Amalie High School will depart for a college tour of Historically Black Colleges and Universities from April 20-24, according to a press release from Carmen Howell, acting principal of CAHS. The tour will take students on visits to eastern region colleges and universities such as: Atlanta's Morehouse, Spelman and Morris Brown Colleges and Clark Atlanta University; North Carolina A&T; Duke University in Washington, D.C.; as well as Virginia's Hampton University and Virginia State University. Students will be accompanied by five chaperones.
"The students are extremely excited about the prospects of seeing first-hand what these colleges are offering, touring the campuses, and listening to presentations by representatives of the various admissions offices. The Junior Class Counselor, Ms. Shirley Blyden, is equally excited that this project is now a viable reality after working all year with the sponsoring organization, CECAAL – The Christian Education Coalition for African-American Leadership," said Howell.
