Botanical Garden Holds 14th Annual Flower and Fine Arts Festival

March 5, 2008 – St. George Village Botanical Garden will hold its 14th Annual Flower and Fine Art Festival on Saturday and Sunday, March 29 and 30.
Twenty-nine of St. Croix's artists will display their work for sale in the Great Hall. Many of them will be present at the festival's opening reception from 7-9 p.m. on Saturday evening. There will be complimentary hors d'oeuvres and an open bar. Flutists from St. Croix Central High School will provide musical entertainment. The Museum Store in the Bodine Visitors' Center will be open and wine will be served there as well, according to a press release from Lesley Hoffman, SGVBG's administrative director.
This year's festival signature painting of a double hibiscus has been donated by St. Croix artist Betsy Campen. For the past several years, the festival has included an exhibit entitled "Art in Bloom" under the direction of Horticultural Director David Hamada.
On Sunday, the Festival and art sales will continue from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. The St. Croix Hibiscus Society will hold their nationally sanctioned Hibiscus Show early in the day, with the winning blooms on display in the Great Hall after 11 a.m. "We will also have gorgeous displays from the St. Croix Orchid Society," Hamada said, "and the Bonsai Society always has some unusual and special plants to exhibit."
The Museum Store will be open from 10 a.m.- 4 p.m. and the garden's nursery will be staffed by volunteers from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Tours of the garden will depart from the Visitors' Center at noon.
Also, workshops will be held at 1:30 p.m., at which adults will learn about flower arranging in the Visitors' Center, and the kids will be entertained by board member Marilyn Chakroff in the nearby Children's Pavilion. There will be local craft vendors, as well as food and drinks. The garden's bar will be located on the West Gallery of the Great Hall.
Admission for Saturday evening is $35 ($25 for SGVBG members). Admission on Sunday is $5 for adults, with accompanying children admitted free. For more information, call Lesley Hoffman at 692-2874.
