Dec. 13, 2007 – Starlight Friday, a celebration of the night sky, will take place once a month during the winter season at Estate Concordia Preserve on St. John. Kelley Hunter, Ph. D. in cosmology and myth, will guide visitors on a tour of the southern sky while local, amateur astronomer Rich Greengold zeroes in his Meade 10" Schmidt-Cassegain 625x telescope on objects of interest. Concordia's newly constructed Pavilion Terrace affords a panoramic view of the dark sky to the south and east. The Fridays have been chosen for darkness and fall close to the time of the new moon. The first Friday in the series is 7:30 p.m., Dec. 21. The event is free and open to all.
She will be available to do mini astrology readings from 5-6:30 p.m. before the presentation. Reservations for the readings are required, a fee will be charged.
"On this night we'll see Mars at its brightest, Orion and its nebula, and the Andromeda galaxy, among other celestial treats. The moonless sky will be wild with stars," according to Hunter.
Concordia is located on St. John's southeast tip above Salt Pond Bay and overlooks Ram Head, St. Croix and the British Virgin Islands.
