May 5, 2009 – The focus of the Virgin Islands Energy Office three public hearings this week is the Weatherization Assistance Program. For the first time the U.S. Department of Energy has made available $1.4 million for the Virgin Islands in the program. The purpose of the program is to increase the energy efficiency of dwellings owned or occupied by low-income persons, reduce their total residential expenditures, and improve their health and safety.
The hearings will be held on each of the main islands in their respective Senate Buildings from 6-9 p.m. The St. Croix hearing is Tuesday, May 5; St. Thomas is Wednesday, May 6; and St. John is Friday, May 7.
