St. Croix Landmarks Society Holds Starving Artists Fair at Estate Whim

The St. Croix Landmarks Society (SCLS) presents its annual November Starving Artists Fair at the Estate Whim Museum in Frederiksted, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 29. The fair is one of its most widely attended fundraising events of the year. The event showcases over 90 artists, crafts people and food vendors. Admission for adults and children 13 and older is $5; children under 12 are admitted free of charge.

Locally-made jewelry, fine art, ceramics, woodwork, mocko jumbies, dolls, photographs, plants, books, botanical oils and lotions will be available for purchase. Food and drink booths will feature local delicacies such as paté, johnny cakes, fritters, Vienna and other cakes, tarts, fracos, smoothies and juices. Landmarks’ cash bar will be open all day.
Radio personality Roger W. Morgan will host his third annual Guavaberry Competition. Guavaberry liqueur is a traditional Christmas drink in the Virgin Islands. Cash prizes and trophies will be awarded.
This year’s featured artist is King Derby’s Calypso Inc., who will perform from 1-4 p.m. Performances by the Pearl B. Larsen Elementary School Dance Ensemble and the Charles H. Emmanuel School Quadrille Dancers will begin at 11 a.m. Women’s and men’s African drumming groups will also perform from noon to 1 p.m.
Members of the Ancestry Discovery Group will exhibit family histories and trees. Come be inspired to search for your own ancestors or make a connection to someone else’s tree. Starving Artists Fair is a great way to spend a Sunday with the family.
