March 2, 2005 – Caribbean Community Theatre is presenting its third production of the season, Steel Magnolias an award-winning dramatic comedy by Robert Harling.
Steel Magnolias is directed by Eileen Bishop Des Jardins, and features the local talents of some faces familiar to CCT audiences, such as Marsha Munchez, Bonita Repp, Carol Doyle and Oceana James, along with some new bloodAnnie Barry and Jeanne Johnston.
Performance dates are on March 4-5, 11-12 and 18-19, 2005 at 8:00 PM on Friday and Saturday evenings, with a Sunday matinee at 4:00 PM on March 13, 2005. Ticket prices are $15.00 for adults and $8.00 for students ($12.00 and $5.00 for CCT members). This production is not recommended for children under age 10. Please arrive early for best seating, as no reservations are being taken for this production. Performances will be held in the NEW Caribbean Community Theatre, at #18 Estate Orange Grove, Christiansted, St. Croix.
Steel Magnolias, the movie, starred Julia Roberts, Olympia Dukakis, Shirley McLain, Dolly Parton, Darryl Hannah, and Sally Fields, and was based on the play written by Robert Harling. Steel Magnolias is set in Truvy's small beauty parlor in Chinquapin, Louisiana, where "everybody who's anybody, gets their hair done at Truvy's" and where salon chairs become psychologists couches for an eclectic group of women. Through good times and bad times, these six women gather and share the ups and downs of their big-city issues in their small-town lives.
