More than 350 books will be donated to the Boys & Girls Club of the Virgin Islands on St. Thomas thanks to the generosity of cruise visitors. The Department of Tourism will host the event on behalf of Blue World Travel, a San Francisco–based travel agency, at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 4, at Oswald Harris Court Community Center. DOT’s Assistant Commissioner Monique Sibilly Hodge will present the books to Boys & Girls Club Unit Director Jacqueline Brown in the presence of club members.
For the past 20 years Blue World Travel has organized Caribbean cruise charters for African-American travelers featuring African-American musicians, comedians and other celebrities. Because of their commitment to literacy, and in appreciation for being hosted by various Caribbean countries, Blue World Travel also organizes book drives in Caribbean destinations, asking each cruise passenger to donate a book to the cause. This year, St. Thomas was selected as the recipient.
