Wednesday's variable winds of six to 13 knots provided the energy for close racing action at the GMC-Yukon Yachting Key West Race Week. Peter Holmberg described it as "Another great day of racing, with good weather, a tight pack of boats all being well sailed, and lead changes with every shift and mark rounding."
Interactions between Holmberg and future America's Cup team mate Ken Read appear to consist of bad air from HEATWAVE driven by Read occasionally impairing the performance of VIM, Holmberg's ride. This is not a team event and boat owners hire outstanding skippers like Read and Holmberg to win, not help the next guy.
The Italian team on BRAVA continues to sail well and remains in first with 8 points, VIM second with 13. Rounding out the top of the class are HEATWAVE and English entry HAWK with 18 and 19 points respectively. In an event with multiple races low score wins, with a first place scored 1 point, second 2 points, third 3 points, etc. A bad race by any of the top 4 or 5 boats will quickly rearrange the standings, and there are three more races to go in the event.
