We know Gov. Charles W. Turnbull is wrestling with the big issues he’s Inherited, particularly finding the money needed to meet payroll and pay the government’s overdue bills.
But some of the little issues need attention too, if not from him directly, from his appointees.
Case in point: roadside brush.
We have plenty of people on the Public Works payroll, yet we can see little to no evidence in recent weeks of anyone out on the roads cutting back all the brush that has grown high and wide from all the rain we’ve gotten.
As a result, some of our roads are downright dangerous. Two-lane roads have shrunk to one, or maybe one and a half. Drivers maneuver down the middle of many roads to keep the brush from scratching their cars, which can be very dicey when they come around curves.
Cutting roadside brush doesn’t require an additional outlay of money. It simply requires deploying the existing manpower to do the jobs that the public expects of them.
Those little quality-of-life issues make a difference to people. We hope the new governor will make sure someone in his administration stays on top of them.
