ART AFTER DARK AT YACHT CLUB GREAT SUCCESS

0

The St. Thomas-St. John Arts Council held its Art After Dark program for January at the St. Thomas Yacht Club on Friday night.
It was by all standards a great success. The featured artists were the members of the UVI Jazz Orchestra.
"I am more than satisfied," declared Pat Duarte, board member of the St. Thomas-St. John Arts Council and coordinator of the concert. "It was a real success in terms of attendance and dollars."
STAC raised almost $600 on the event. All monies raised go to the UVI jazz group.
The 17-piece jazz band under the direction of UVI music professor Martin Lamkin drew rounds of applause with solid readings of their play list that included Jimmy Van Heusen's "Darn That Dream," Vernon Duke's "I Can't Get Started," "Joshua" and the Latin-tinged "Waiting For Godot."
The evening's performance ended with — what else? — Sonny Rollins' "St. Thomas."
