Did you know Treasury Secretary Robert Rubin vacationed in the Virgin Islands over Christmas?
He was here, according to the cover story in the Feb. 15 Time magazine about how Rubin, his deputy Lawrence Summers and Federal Reserve Board Chairman Alan Greenspan have prevented a global economic meltdown.
The Time story starts this way (with white print on a black background — very attention-grabbing):
"The phone rings. You are on vacation in the Virgin Islands. You have been dreaming about the fishing for the better part of two months, and you are about to head out to chase the Christmastime bonefish running offshore and to spend a day on the water, with the sun leaching six months of Washington baloney from your brain. The phone rings, and because you are Secretary of the Treasury, you answer."
Not a bad plug for a destination badly in need of it….
