Red-flag your calendar for Feb. 17. Because on that evening the multi-talented David Amram and his trio will appear in concert at the Tillett Gardens.
The Boston Globe described Amram as the true Renaissance man. Amram has composed more than 100 works for orchestra and chamber groups that include theater and film scores for Splendor In The Grass and The Manchurian Candidate.
Amram has mastered a dozen major instruments and is a pioneer of jazz on French horn. Hes worked with musical giants Leonard Bernstein, Dizzy Gillespie, Theloneus Monk and Tito Puente, and was composer in residence in 1966 and 67 with the New York Philharmonic.
In addition to arranging scores for the N.Y. Shakespeare Festival, he recorded the critically acclaimed Havana-N.Y. album during the historic U.S.-Cuban music exchange in 1977.
The Amram trios program will include Billy Strayhorns Take the A train, Sonny Rollins' St. Thomas, George Gershwins Summertime, Antonio Carlos Jobims Girl From Ipanema and the theme from the award-winning Splendor in the Grass."
