The Law Enforcement Supervisory Union has taken strong exception to remarks made by Gov. Charles W. Turnbull on Wednesday. Turnbull said in a press conference that he is looking outside the territory to fill top positions in the V.I. Police Department.
LESU President Capt. Al Donastorg told the Independent if he were one of the people in an acting position right now, he would ask the governor to relieve him of his duties.
"I think he did a grave disservice to both the acting commissioner and the acting police chief with his statements. Basically what he said is that he does not have confidence in their abilities," Donastorg said
Donastorg said police officers told him they were demoralized by the governor's remarks. He also said there are a number of qualified people now serving in the department who could fill the positions.
