Conrad R. Hoover was sworn in Monday as the 13th U.S. marshal for the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Hoover, 44, grew up in St. Thomas from the age of 12 and calls the Virgin Islands “home,” according to Tuesday's Independent.
He is a Charlotte Amalie High School graduate, the Daily News story said.
Hoover worked for eight years with the V.I. Public Safety Department before joining the Marshal’s Service 12 years ago.
The Marshal's Service performs a long list of tasks, including witness protection, protection for the courts, warrant service, property service and making arrests.
At the swearing-in ceremony Monday, Hoover challenged young people in the territory to set their goals high and work hard to attain them.
Hoover replaces U.S. Marshal Walter Riche who left because of illness, the Daily News said.
