U.S. Customs agents in St. Thomas are looking for a Colombian man in connection with the seizure late Sunday night of 2,567 pounds of marijuana.
Agents from the U.S. Customs Service and the V.I. Police Departments High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area Task Force seized a cigarette type high-speed vessel containing more than $3 million worth of the illegal drug.
Anyone knowing the whereabouts of Jaime Augusto Castaneda Ramirez, 33, of Colombia is asked to call U.S. Customs at 693-2250 or HIDTA at 693-2201. All information will be held in confidence.
Agents from the two agencies were on routine patrol Sunday night when they spotted the vessel moving along the southeast coast of St. Thomas without running lights, according to Special Agent Russ Perras.
The boat ran aground on a beach in Estate Nazareth as it attempted to avoid pursuit, according to the media reports. Whoever was in the boat escaped.
