ZONE A OFFICERS DON DUST MASKS

The Zone “A” central police command building that has been plagued with problems for years, has another one — the air.
Workers in the building on Norre Gade have been experiencing eye, nose and throat irritations. Police officers and other workers are wearing dust masks to protect themselves, according to Friday's Independent.
Capt. Al Donastorg, zone commander, said he called the Health Department on Wednesday to ask that someone come to test the air in the building. Donastorg told the Independent that Health officials said they couldn't do it because of staff shortages.
Donastorg said he understood the Health Department's problems but if something isn’t done by Monday, workers would refuse to come into the building.
The Zone A building has structural problems, including a leaking roof, faulty plumbing and exposed electrical wiring. Police officials have pledged to make improvements soon.
