SISTA! SISTA! AT REICHHOLD

Reggae "supasistas" Judy Mowatt and Sister Carol are set to perform at the Reichhold Center at 8 p.m. Saturday, March 20, as part of the acclaimed Women in Reggae tour, which was founded in 1993.
The program is being staged in commemoration of International Women's Month.
Sister Carol, who has enjoyed success as an actress ("Something Wild," "Married to the Mob"), was born in Jamaica. Her musical sensibilities were heavily influenced by the master blasters of her day, and later shaped by the vibrancy of the Brooklyn neighborhood where she was raised. Carol is also an educator and mother of four.
Her musical style was honed on a dub plate — she has mastered the 'toaster' style with positive lyrics and tributes to culture.
Producer, singer, writer and dancer Judy Mowatt's musical career began in a Kingston, Jamaica, church choir. She later moved on to one of the most recognized backup groups in entertainment history, Bob Marley's I-Threes (Judy shared the mike with Marcia Griffiths and Rita Marley).
She, like her fellow I-Threes, has thrived in her solo career, becoming the first female Reggae artist to earn a Grammy nomination. She has been described as "the very epitome of dignified Rastafarian womanhood" by journalist Frank Owen (New York's Newsday).
The women plan to participate in a public panel discussion as part of their visit.
For tickets and more information contact the Reichhold Center Box Office at 693-1559 or Renee Heider at 693-1553.
Women in Reggae: In Celebration of International Women's Month is sponsored in part by the Virgin Islands Council on the Arts.
